SIBO Glucose (3-Hour Breath Test)

Hydrogen & methane breath analysis for gut fermentation patterns

What it is
3-hour breath test that measures hydrogen (H₂) and methane (CH₄) levels after drinking a measured glucosesolution. It’s designed to explore patterns of fermentation in the digestive tract that may be consistent with small-intestinal activity (often discussed as SIBO/IMO) versus colonic fermentation. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is also recorded to help verify sample quality.

How it works

  • You follow the kit’s simple preparation steps (e.g., short pre-test diet and fasting as instructed).

  • You drink the provided glucose solution.

  • You collect breath samples at regular intervals over 3 hours into the supplied tubes or bags.

  • The lab analyses H₂, CH₄ (and CO₂ for validity) and provides a clear, time-stamped report.

What the report may show

  • Early rises in H₂/CH₄ after glucose can be consistent with small-intestinal fermentation patterns (often discussed as SIBO or IMO—intestinal methanogen overgrowth).

  • Later rises can be more consistent with colonic fermentation.

  • CO₂ helps confirm that samples were collected properly.

What you receive

  • A digital breath test report showing your gas levels across time points, with easy-to-read charts and lab commentary.

Good to know

  • Preparation matters: follow the kit instructions carefully (diet, fasting, and guidance around recent antibiotics, probiotics, or laxatives).

  • Certain factors (e.g., recent gastrointestinal infections, bowel prep, or not following the prep diet) can influence results.
